20 April 2015, Pointe-Claire, QC – Cadet Corps 2806 Pointe-Claire (RMR) had a busy Saturday renewing their affiliation with The Royal Montreal Regiment.  They spent the day training at the Regimental home on Ste-Catherine street in Westmount, starting off with a briefing on the history & traditions of the Regiment from the RMR’s Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel, who himself is a former Pointe-Claire 2806 (RMR) cadet.

The Cadets experienced the opportunity to practice their drill on the same parade square where thousands of RMR’s have drilled over the past 90 years since the Armoury opened for training.  Numerous promotions were also issued on the parade square in front of the Regiment’s ‘hallowed ground’ – the bronze memorial tablet located on the North wall.

A half-dozen instructors from the RMR were on hand to give the Cadets a familiarization with military equipment, etc. This was an excellent opportunity for interaction between different branches of the same Regimental family tree.

Later that evening, back in Pointe-Claire, the Cadets held a traditional mess dinner with the RMR’s Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel as their guest of honour.  He explained the significance of numerous customs associated with mess dinners, as well as used the opportunity to reward WO Richard Corneau for his more than 25-years of volunteering with the Corps.

WO Corneau, a former  Pointe-Claire 2806 (RMR) cadet himself, was given a framed copy of the RMR’s commemorative envelope issued by Canada Post in September 2014 honouring the RMR’s century of service to Canada.
