Officers’ Trench Whistle

Officers’ Trench Whistle

In WW1, the Army had a system where they would use different whistles to coordinate movement.

For example, the Battalion Commander had a siren whistle, the Company Commander had a kinglet whistle, and the Platoon and Squad leaders had thunderer whistles. Each whistle made a different sound so the troops in the trenches who could not see their officer would know to move when they heard the whistle.
