In Camp, Lark Hill, Salisbury Plains

The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day: “Drawing equipment.  Active preparations for move.” [1]

THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY: Corporal Arthur Sydney Randall was born at Wilton, Salisbury, England, on October 2nd, 1883, to William Sydney and Sarah Rebecca Randall of that town.  Sometime after the spring of 1911 he emigrated to Canada where he was employed as a advertising agent salesman and lived on Jeanne Mance Street.  During Arthur’s stay in Montreal he served with the Canadian Grenadier Guards for 22 months before enlisting for overseas service with the 14th Bn. on September 23rd, 1914.  While the 14th Battalion was stationed at Salisbury Camp, Arthur contracted meningitis and was hospitalized at Bulford Hospital and died there on January 29th, 1914 at the age of 31.  He was unmarried, and was buried at Bulford Church Cemetery, Wiltshire, not far from where he had been born.
