THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY – 27 August 1914 – While the daily headlines continued to bring news of the war in Europe, Canadian news reports told of the acquisition by the Government of an additional four thousand acres of land to enlarge Valcartier Camp. The purpose of this expansion was to provide space for artillery ranges. Previous to this purchase the land had been occupied by a number of small and generally unproductive farms.
