Westmount, QC – 03 October 2014: The RMR hockey team kicked off its Centennial Season with a comeback victory over the Canadian Grenadier Guards (CGG). The CGG may have been one of the three founding units of the RMR but on Oct 2nd the atmosphere was anything but friendly as the Montreal Military Hockey League kicked off the 2014-2015 season.
The season opener opened at a ferocious tempo, the CGG came out very strong and after 40 minutes the RMR found themselves in a deep hole down 6-2. After a quick re-org the RMR found their legs, and as in battle the RMR shines in difficult and adverse conditions. The 3rd period started with the RMR dictating the tempo. Speed, aggression and discipline were used and quickly put the CGG on their heels, it wasn’t long before the RMR was putting balls in the back of the net and points on the scoreboard.
6 unanswered goals made the difference and as the buzzer sounded the RMR celebrated a 8-6 victory. The road to the MMHL Championship will be long and character is what is required to go deep in the playoffs. If the first match is any indication, the RMR has that character that is required to bring home the championship.
In true RMR spirit….When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
