THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY, 28 September 1914 – “ Nos. 4, 5, and 6 Companies of the [14th] Battalion, and the Base Company, remained in camp till the morning of September 28th, when under command of Lieut.-Col. W.W. Burland, they followed their comrades to Quebec and embarked on the S.S. Andania, together with the 16th Battalion, Canadian Scottish.” [2]
The distribution of 14th Battalion personnel between the Alaunia and the Andania is summarized in the following table. This shows a total of 1,193 all ranks of the 14th Battalion sailed with the First Canadian Contingent in October 1914. [3]
