History
The Royal Montreal Regiment Museum was opened on September 20th, 1974 by Brigadier W.S.G. Armour, Colonel of the Prince of Wales Own Regiment of Yorkshire, on the occasion of the Regiment’s 60th Anniversary reunion. Today, the RMR Museum’s collection is perpetually on display in a room dedicated to this purpose located at the west end of the parade square. The exhibition showcases the history of The Royal Montreal Regiment, Canada’s first bilingual fighting unit and the narrative of Canadian military history since 1914. Our collection contains photographs, books, posters, medals, badges, letters, weaponry, uniforms and other artefacts from the Great War up to the modern conflict in Iraq.
Before the RMR Museum was created, artefacts were the responsibility of the RMR itself (as a military unit). They would sometimes be used for recruiting purposes like on this picture taken in June 1943.
Mission :
The RMR Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the rich military and cultural heritage of The Royal Montreal Regiment. We acquire and showcase artifacts linked to the regiment in order to provide broader educational context of Canadian history and to maintain an accessible collection for the present and future generations.
