Division inspected by F.M. Lord Roberts, V.C.\u201d \u00a0<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[1]<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>INSPECTION BY LORD ROBERTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/24-Oct-14.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9581 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/24-Oct-14-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"24 Oct 14\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>The Battalion History records:\u00a0 \u201cThree days after General Alderson\u2019s inspection of the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Brigade, the Canadian Division was reviewed by its Honorary Colonel, Field Marshal Earl Roberts of Kandahar, V.C.\u00a0 No British soldier was more popular than this veteran, and the troops endeavoured by the warmth of their welcome to prove that his services in South Africa had not been forgotten. Unfortunately, his review was somewhat marred by heavy rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report filed by <em>Canadian Associated Cables<\/em> carried two days later by <em>The Globe <\/em>in Toronto tells this story:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLord Roberts yesterday made his informal round in an almost uninterrupted rain.\u00a0 His stay extended over four hours, during which the officers of every brigade came under his notice, several battalions also parading for inspection. Before leaving the veteran soldier expressed his keen pleasure with everything he had seen and extended congratulations to the Divisional Staff. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Salisbury hotels this weekend received a considerable patronage from proud parents who journeyed thither to visit the lads home from Canada [ie.
