{"id":7618,"date":"2014-10-06T06:09:32","date_gmt":"2014-10-06T10:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/?p=7618"},"modified":"2014-10-06T06:09:32","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T10:09:32","slug":"battle-for-leopold-canal-70-years-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmrmuseum.com\/fr\/battle-for-leopold-canal-70-years-later\/","title":{"rendered":"Battle for Leopold Canal: 70 Years Later"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Flamethrowerscheldt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7619 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Flamethrowerscheldt.jpg\" alt=\"Flamethrower Canal\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a>Westmount, 06 October 2014 &#8211; Today is the 70th anniversary of the Battle for Leopold Canal, one of the Regiment&#8217;s principal battle honours won in the Second World War. \u00a0Maj Robert Schwob, Officer Commanding &#8220;A&#8221; Coy RMR, distinguished himself by earning the Military Cross at the storming of the Leopold Canal on October 6th 1944.<\/p>\n<p>This officer of the Royal Montreal Regiment Company attached to the Regina Rifle Regiment was in command of the assault company which was to form a bridgehead &#8230; across the Leopold Canal near Maldeghem, Belgium.
