L to R Moderator HonLCol Richard Garber, LCol (ret&#8217;d) Dr. Markus Martin, HonCol David Hart, and MGen (ret&#8217;d) Edward Fitch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Westmount, Quebec &#8211; 30\u00a0May 2017: \u00a0The Canadian Jewish Experience, proudly celebrating Canada\u2019s 150 years,\u00a0invited the friends &amp; members of the RMR regimental family to a unique opportunity held in the RMR officers&#8217; mess last night:\u00a0A panel composed of Jewish veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces who discussed their military experience as Jews, spanning eight decades of\u00a0service, and the specific issues encountered and surmounted.<\/p>\n<p>The panel\u00a0was moderated by Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Garber, CD, who\u00a0served 32 years in the Army Reserve, including command of the\u00a0Brockville Rifles regiment after his service with the RMR. There were 50+ guests in attendance to listen to the panel.<\/p>\n<p>All of the panelists reported that their time in the military had been very rewarding, and MGen (ret&#8217;d) Fitch probably summed up the Canadian military experience the best when he stated that the Canadian Army is a meritocracy.<\/p>\n<p>Panel members included:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Honorary Colonel David Hart, MM, CD<\/strong><br \/>\nHCol Hart, aged 99 \u00be, was awarded the Military Medal for bravery on the battlefield as a\u00a0young Sergeant at Dieppe. He is the longest serving Honorary Colonel in the Canadian\u00a0Army.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Major-General (retired) Edward Fitch, OMM, MSM, CD<\/strong><br \/>\nMGen Fitch is only the second Jewish member of the Canadian Armed Forces to attain\u00a0the rank of major-general.
