He participated in some of the fiercest fighting seen by Canadians during the war and was decorated for bravery at Passchendaele. Determined to preserve his memories of the First World War, he maintained a daily record of his experiences. Here is what he wrote precisely 100 years ago today:<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Friday April 13, 1916:\u00a0<\/strong>Unlucky day they say but nothing happened \u2013 flag drill and squad drill \u2013 pretty tired today so did not write Clare Guess will write tomorrow or Sunday.
