He participated in some of the fiercest fighting seen by Canadians during the war and was decorated for bravery at Passchendaele. Determined to preserve his memories of the First World War, he maintained a daily record of his experiences. Here is what he wrote precisely 100 years ago today:<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Thursday April 12, 1917:\u00a0<\/strong>Nothing doing in forenoon squad and extended order drill in the afternoon spent about 30 cts [cents] getting filled up. Wrote letter no 4 to the little wife away over in Canada wonder what she is doing today.
