Everyone knows that steel nets are being used extensively to entangle the propellers of the German under-water craft. A prominent Canadian manufacturer was asked some time ago if he was in a position to make some of these nets, but his plant was otherwise engaged. Mr. Churchill may have been referring, not to the trawlers that are out netting submarines, but to the mysterious vessels now in process of construction on the Clyde, and which are believed to be intended to act as submarine destroyers, maintaining high speed on the surface, and able to dive after submarines and fight them under water. If the war is prolonged there will unquestionably be a marked advance during its progress in sub-aqueous navigation.”

[1] War Diary, 14th Canadian Battalion, The Royal Montreal Regiment, June 26, 1915. Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e044/e001089753.jpg

[1] “War Summary,” The Globe (1844-1936), Toronto, Ontario, Friday, June 25, 1915, p. 1, col. 6.

Saturday, June 26, 1915 Reserve Billets, Le Quesnoy The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day: “Left Reserve Billets at 6:30 for Neuf Berquin arriving there about 4:00 am June

[19

post-11477","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-this-day-in-rmr-history
["GET
