(Lt.-Col. Tuxford). Took over sector from the La Bass\u00e9e Canal on the right to a point where the line crossed the road northwest of H.1. \u00a0About 800 yards following the trench line \u2013 Arrived about 8 p.m. and relief was completed by 9:30 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0 Nos. 1 &amp; 2 Companies in front line, Nos. 3 &amp; 4 in support.\u00a0 Very good trenches and in good condition except that the front line did not consist of a continuous fire trench, but of redoubts connected\u00a0 by communication trench.\u00a0 Whole system had been built by Brigade of Guards under supervision of Major Russell Brown, R.E.\u00a0 Relief in this sector could be done in daylight&#8221;<\/em> [1]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY:\u00a0The Battalion history mentions \u201cOn taking over the front, the Royal Montreal Regiment began construction of a fire trench, completing the work some days later.\u201d\u00a0 <a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/06-June-15.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11363 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/06-June-15.png\" alt=\"06 June 15\" width=\"711\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>THANK YOU FOR THE TOBACCO:\u00a0<\/strong>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/the-gazette-tobacco-fund-in-1915\/\" target=\"_blank\">earlier posting talked of the \u201cTobacco Fund\u201d<\/a> sponsored by <em>The Gazette<\/em> in Montreal which encouraged readers to contribute funds for the purchase and shipment of cigarettes, pipe tobacco, and pipes to the troops serving overseas.\u00a0 Each package sent contained a postcard with the name and address of the donor.\u00a0 Soldiers receiving these packages were encouraged to use the postcards to thank their benefactors.\u00a0 From time to time <em>The Gazette<\/em> published a selection of these thank-you cards. Here is a selection of such notes from men serving at the front with the 14<sup>th<\/sup> Battalion that appeared in the paper on Saturday, June 5<sup>th<\/sup> 1915.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c\u2026Little Gladys Morrison, of 74 Bruce Avenue, contributed to the Fund, and naturally neither she nor her parents knew into whose hands the tobacco for which she had paid would fall.\u00a0 Yesterday she received the following on the post-card bearing her name and address:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No. 26137, Pte C.
