The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day: “All ranks resting.”\u00a0<\/em>[1]<\/a><\/p>\n

\"08<\/a>THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY:\u00a0\u201cLondon, April 8.\u00a0 A despatch from Amsterdam says that fighting is still proceeding in the neighborhood of Neuve Chapelle.\u00a0 The Allies\u2019 artillery is bombarding the villages of Fromelles and Herlies.\u00a0 The Germans have delivered numerous counter-attacks especially at night, but have been consistently unsuccessful.<\/p>\n

Packing artillery shells to the front<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The artillery fighting in the Fromelles region is stated to have been particularly violent.\u00a0 The Germans attacked at this point in close formation and supported by artillery, while four aeroplanes dropped bombs on the British positions.\u00a0 The German infantry is said to have suffered considerable losses.<\/p>\n

Strong German attacks near Armentieres, according to this despatch, have also failed. British warships continue to shell the Belgian coast, supporting the allies\u2019 land operations.\u00a0 The allies are delivering infantry attacks regularly.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 [3]<\/a><\/p>\n
