{"id":10935,"date":"2015-03-29T16:16:14","date_gmt":"2015-03-29T20:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/?p=10935"},"modified":"2015-03-29T16:16:14","modified_gmt":"2015-03-29T20:16:14","slug":"rmr-holds-centennial-regimental-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmrmuseum.com\/fr\/rmr-holds-centennial-regimental-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"RMR holds Centennial Regimental Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0228.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter wp-image-10945 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0228-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0228\" width=\"670\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>28 March 2015 &#8211; All ranks of the serving battalion of The Royal Montreal Regiment gathered Saturday evening for a regimental mess dinner on the parade square.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10939\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 179px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0102.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10939 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0102-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Poppy ceremony for Colonel Lawson's portrait\" width=\"179\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Poppy ceremony for Colonel Lawson&#8217;s portrait<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The dinner began with a dignified ceremony marking the death of one of the Regiment&#8217;s beloved members,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/rip-colonel-retd-rhett-lawson-cd-kh-klj\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colonel (ret\u2019d) Rhett Lawson, CD, KH, KLJ,<\/a>\u00a0a former Commanding Officer (1967-70), Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel (1979-84), and Honorary Colonel (1984-90) of <a class=\"profileLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/royalmontrealregiment\" data-hovercard=\"\/ajax\/hovercard\/page.php?id=113912691955842\"><span class=\"highlightNode\">The Royal\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"highlightNode\">Montreal<\/span> <span class=\"highlightNode\">Regiment<\/span><\/a> (and former Commander of District 1, a precursor to 34 GBC).<\/p>\n<p>Comrade Lawson was also a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/rmr-association\/\" target=\"_blank\">RMR Association (Br. 14)<\/a>. \u00a0The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/co-rsm-welcome\/\" target=\"_blank\"> CO RMR, LCol Paul Langlais<\/a>, invited the senior member of the Regimental family present at the dinner, LCol (ret&#8217;d) Harry Hall, to join him in front of the entire unit for the ceremonial pinning of a poppy in the bottom right corner of Colonel Lawson&#8217;s official portrait, which tradition dictates is how the RMR marks the passing of their CO&#8217;s and RSM&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11093\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 157px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Dallaire-receiving-plaque.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11093\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Dallaire-receiving-plaque-150x150.png\" alt=\"Romeo Dallaire receiving plaque from the RSM\" width=\"157\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">General\u00a0Dallaire\u00a0being thanked by the Regiment<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Regiment&#8217;s guest of honour was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.romeodallaire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lieutenant-General The Honourable Romeo A. Dallaire,\u00a0O.C., C.M.M., G.O.C, M.S.C., C.D., (Retired)<\/a>, who addressed the Regiment at length, reminding them of the covenant between them and Canadian society. \u00a0His remarks were well received and the Regiment presented him with three gifts (one from each mess), including a framed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/centennial\/commemorative-envelope\/\" target=\"_blank\">commemorative envelope<\/a> from the Regiment&#8217;s Centennial as a token of their appreciation.<\/p>\n<p>The toast to the Regiment was proposed by LCol (ret&#8217;d) Colin Robinson, the RMR&#8217;s Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel, who used the opportunity to remind the Regiment of the origins of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/rmrs-love-affair-with-srd-begins-in-1915\/\" target=\"_blank\">RMR&#8217;s regimental drink<\/a><\/strong>, dark rum, a heritage that began in the trenches precisely 100 years earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The loyal toast was proposed by Corporal Connor Prince-Pugh. \u00a0The toast to fallen and missing comrades was proposed by Lieutenant-Colonel (ret&#8217;d) Harry Hall, the toast to the guests by Master-Warrant Officer Kevin Langlois, and responded to by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/museum\/\" target=\"_blank\">RMR Museum&#8217;s<\/a> curator, Ron Zemanick.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11096\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 150px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Chair-IA.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11096 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Chair-IA-150x150.png\" alt=\"Chair working, chair working, CHAIR BREAKS - first IA!\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Chair working, chair working, CHAIR BREAKS &#8211; first IA!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The mood of the evening was exceptional, as everyone was in high spirits. There\u00a0were a few Immediate Action drills due to faulty chairs, however no one was injured (beyond their pride) and it provided even more fodder for the merriment!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10941\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 150px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0339.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10941 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_0339-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"General Dallaire tours the RMR Museum\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">General Dallaire tours the RMR Museum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the dinner was over, General Dallaire toured the RMR Museum and spent a long time chatting with the soldiers of the Regiment, reminiscing about common experiences of soldiering. \u00a0All ranks mingled with each other in the different messes and the camaraderie was pronounced, as war stories were told, pictures shared, selfies taken, and a few refreshments consumed together.<\/p>\n<p>All in all it was a wonderful evening that will go down in the Regiment&#8217;s history as a great success!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.1064294226917679.1073741861.113912691955842&amp;type=3&amp;uploaded=45\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>More photos are available on the Regiment&#8217;s Facebook Page<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>28 March 2015 &#8211; All ranks of the serving battalion of The Royal Montreal Regiment gathered Saturday evening for a regimental mess dinner on the parade square.
