{"id":10829,"date":"2015-03-16T06:00:41","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/?p=10829"},"modified":"2015-03-16T06:00:41","modified_gmt":"2015-03-16T10:00:41","slug":"germans-fired-on-ambulances-in-1915","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmrmuseum.com\/fr\/germans-fired-on-ambulances-in-1915\/","title":{"rendered":"GERMANS FIRED ON AMBULANCES IN 1915"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Tuesday, March 16, 1915<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>In billets, Rue\u00a0du Quesne<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day: <em>\u201cNo parade except rifle inspection.\u00a0 Men played football in the afternoon.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Battalion history has noted that after moving back to these billets on the night of the 13<sup>th<\/sup>, no parades, except rifle inspections, were held on the 14<sup>th<\/sup>, 15<sup>th<\/sup> and 16<sup>th<\/sup>, to give the men a thorough rest, which was varied only by a few games of football on the afternoon of the 16<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY:\u00a0<strong>Three Wounded Canadians Received Additional Injuries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Special Cable from The Gazette\u2019s Resident Staff Correspondent.)\u00a0 London, March 8 &#8211; How the Germans fired upon an ambulance in which two wounded Canadians were being conveyed to a base hospital is told by one of the men who had received a bullet wound in the leg during a charge.\u00a0 After lying wounded from mid-day until midnight he was conveyed to a dressing station and after receiving attention there he was placed in an ambulance.\u00a0 This was in the afternoon and when the vehicle was half a mile from the town with no troops or other apparatus near, the ambulance was hit by a shell which inflicted further, though not serious, injuries to both occupants.<\/p>\n<p>A similar incident occurred when a corporal from one of the Canadian battalions was being conveyed to hospital.\u00a0 He had been wounded in the head and when a shell burst upon the ambulance the wounded corporal sustained a shattered thigh.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<pre>[1]\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>War Diary, 14<sup>th<\/sup> Canadian Battalion, The Royal Montreal Regiment<\/em>, March 16, 1915.\u00a0 Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/data2.collectionscanada.ca\/e\/e044\/e001089701.jpg\">http:\/\/data2.collectionscanada.ca\/e\/e044\/e001089701.jpg<\/a><\/pre>\n<pre>[2]\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 R.C.
