Pultney and staff on road. He scrutinized the battalion closely as it passed him and asked numerous questions.\u00a0 Pav\u00e9 troubling the men, but no stragglers.\u00a0 Arrived <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armenti%C3%A8res\">Armenti\u00e8res<\/a> in the afternoon.\u00a0 Battn. H.Q. and Nos. 1 and 2 Companies billeted in the Asylum, Nos. 3 &amp; 4 in large warehouse in town.\u00a0 Transport and Q.M. in other end of town.\u00a0 Rather inconvenient.\u00a0 Attached to 17<sup>th<\/sup> British Brigade, Brig.-General Harper, Bde. It is also known by its ersatz French line, <em>Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous<\/em> (variant: <em>Parley voo<\/em>). It was considered a risqu\u00e9 song. The tune of the song was believed to be popular in the French army in the 1830s, and the original words told of the encounter of an inn-keeper&#8217;s daughter, named Mademoiselle de Bar le Luc, with two German officers.
