Sir John French in field near Caestre.\u00a0 Apparently much pleased.\u00a0 Stated that if we could fight as well as we looked, he was sorry for the Germans.\u00a0 Capt. Holt, Adjutant, rejoined battalion, having managed to get War Office to send him over without waiting for vacancy to occur.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY: \u00a0The second of the three sons of Sir Herbert Samuel Holt (1856-1941), and his wife Jessie Paton, Major Andrew Paton Holt (b.1893), was named for his maternal grandfather.\u00a0 All three sons were graduates of the Royal Military College, Kingston.\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cAndrew Holt attended RMC [No. 845] from 1909 to 1913 and on graduation entered the business world.\u00a0 On the outbreak of War in 1914 he joined the 14<sup>th<\/sup> Battalion and served throughout the war in various staff appointments.\u00a0 He had a rare business acumen and was one of the wealthiest men in Canada.\u00a0 His financial interests were in banking, films, electrical power, newspapers, hotels, chemicals and other fields in both Canada and England.\u00a0 He served in several of the British Ministries as an advisor.\u00a0 He was a life member of the RMC Club.\u00a0 Major Andrew Holt died from a heart attack in London, England, on 12 September 1964.\u201d\u00a0 <a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<pre>[1]\u00a0\u00a0 <em>War Diary, 14<sup>th<\/sup> Canadian Battalion, The Royal Montreal Regiment<\/em>, Feb 20, 1915.\u00a0 Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/data2.collectionscanada.ca\/e\/e044\/e001089694.jpg\">http:\/\/data2.collectionscanada.ca\/e\/e044\/e001089694.jpg<\/a><\/pre>\n<pre>[2]\u00a0\u00a0 <em>\u00a0\u201cRoyal Military College of Canada, Kingston, Ontario - Review Yearbook \u2013 Class of 1965\u201d\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.e-yearbook.com\/yearbooks\/Royal_Military_College_Canada_Review_Yearbook\/1965\/Page_178.html\">http:\/\/www.e-yearbook.com\/yearbooks\/Royal_Military_College_Canada_Review_Yearbook\/1965\/Page_178.html<\/a><\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday, February 20, 1915 In Billets, Fl\u00eatre The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day: \u201c3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade inspected by Gen.
