{"id":10011,"date":"2014-11-29T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2014-11-29T11:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/?p=10011"},"modified":"2014-11-29T06:00:48","modified_gmt":"2014-11-29T11:00:48","slug":"moccasins-considered-for-the-troops-in-1914","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmrmuseum.com\/fr\/moccasins-considered-for-the-troops-in-1914\/","title":{"rendered":"MOCCASINS CONSIDERED FOR THE TROOPS in 1914"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Sunday, November 29, 1914<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Camp Salisbury Plain, West Down South<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Battalion War Diarist wrote for this day:<em> \u201cDrill. \u00a0Rain\u201d \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/?p=9817&amp;preview=true#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[1]<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/29-Nov-14_A.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9781 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/29-Nov-14_A-150x150.png\" alt=\"29 Nov 14_A\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY: \u201cCanadian Press Dispatch:\u00a0 Ottawa, Nov. 29. \u2013 The British War Office is considering the use of long \u201cbeefskin\u201d moccasins, such as are used by Canadian lumbermen, for the men at the front this winter.\u00a0 The moccasins as manufactured in Canada are waterproof, and with thick heels and heavy soles attached would likely prove a great boon to the men bearing the brunt of the fighting.\u00a0 Many orders for such moccasins have already been received from the men in the Canadian contingent.<\/p>\n<p>Lieut.-Col. Murphy who was Transport Officer in the first Canadian contingent, and who went to England on a special mission for the Militia Department, returned to Ottawa to-day.\u00a0 He highly recommends such footwear for the use of the troops.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/29-Nov-14_B.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9782 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.royalmontrealregiment.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/29-Nov-14_B-300x147.png\" alt=\"29 Nov 14_B\" width=\"300\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a>Lieut.-Col.
