National day of honour: 09 May 14

OTTAWA, 22 April 2014:  NOTE – This update comes directly from National Defence Public Affairs Office – Quebec Region

The National Day of Honour on May 9th commemorates the CAF’s 12-year mission in Afghanistan.

In recognition and commemoration of Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan, May 9, 2014 has been declared a “National Day of Honour” by Royal Proclamation.  A National Ceremony will occur on Parliament Hill with Veterans of all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces and families.  This will be an occasion to pay tribute to the fallen, the sacrifices of the wounded and the special burden borne by military families.

In recognition of the National Day of Honour, Canadians are encouraged to pause for a national moment of silence (two minutes) to reflect on the sacrifices made by families and communities, and that have touched the lives of all Canadians.  Every community across Canada is encouraged to hold an event to reach out to local military personnel and Veterans groups.
