Westmount, 19 August 2014 – The RMR Museum has acquired an important piece of the RMR’s recent history: an 81 mm mortar.  The RMR had been tasked with providing soldiers to the Quebec Area’s composite mortar platoon in the 1990’s and quite a number of the Regiment’s soldiers were qualified on the weapon.

The donation of the 81 mm mortar was arranged through the RMR Association’s own Comrade Steve Gregory, and it comes from the members of the 3rd Montreal Field Battery of Artillery (3 BAM), a volunteer organization affiliated to the 2nd Montreal Field Artillery Regiment on Cote-des-Neiges.

3 BAM is dedicated to supporting Cadets and honoring our Canadian Armed Forces war veterans. With their WWII 25 pounder artillery gun, limber (ammunition carrier) and gun tractor we support a number of ceremonial and training events. The artillery gun, deployed for ceremonial salutes and military parades, further serves as an impressive “rolling museum” as it provides a tangible link to the past and provides citizens with an opportunity to connect with a piece of military history.

It is most fitting that this donation comes from the Artillery, for if there has been one thing that the RMR has always been able to rely on during its 100 years of service, it is the Guns!
